Released 1991: The Macintosh Portable (M1526) is a revision of the Macintosh Portable (M5120) that was released in 1989. Apple replaced the non-backlit 9.8″ 1-bit 640 x 400 pixel active matrix LCD screen with a backlit display, increased base RAM to 2 MB or 4 MB, and replaced the expensive SRAM (static RAM) chips with less-expensive pseudo-SRAM. On the negative side, battery life was cut to almost half.
